BRZ modifications

It’s time to install the rest of my BRZ modifications!

My 2017 BRZ is getting closer to being fully setup for the STX autocross class. In order to produce maximum power, we are going to install a number of upgrades. To begin, I started off with the common bolt-on BRZ modifications. This includes a Grimmspeed intake as well as a RevWorks exhaust header. In addition, I added a Perrin overpipe attached to a  Berk front-pipe. The Berk front-pipe also includes a high-flow catalytic converter. Lastly,  a custom cat-back exhaust system with Magnaflow muffler completes the system. ECUtek is the engine management platform, which we use to get maximum power out of the complimenting upgrades.

e36 exhaust sound

Glorious BMW e36 exhaust sound and revs.

It is winter time and I need to find out if my 1994 BMW 325is will start! The car has been sitting for about a month so I am not sure if I will have a successful start. If all goes well, I will record some of the glorious e36 exhaust sound and revs that come from this car. Since I have numerous engine upgrades, this is not an ordinary 325is. The upgrades on this car include an aFe intake and also a TMS computer chip. In addition, I have engine bolt-ons that consist of TMS headers and a Bimmerworld lightweight race exhaust. This makes for a pretty loud and angry sounding BMW!

BRZ exhaust sound

BRZ exhaust sound from my 2017 Subaru BRZ.

The Subaru BRZ has many improvements for model year 2017. Among some of the changes are engine upgrades and interior changes. The engine upgrades result in a slightly different BRZ exhaust sound compared to the previous model year cars. Since the engine has a bit more power and slightly re-worked exhaust system, this was to be expected. But, what does it really sound like? I have recorded the exhaust sound from my Scion FRS in the past and was curious how the new BRZ stacked up. Granted, my 2017 BRZ is bone stock car while my FRS had upgrades. The stock BRZ sounds pretty dang good!

JoeZ exhaust for my Lexus ISF

JoeZ exhaust versus stock exhaust for my 2011 Lexus ISF!

I felt it was necessary to wake up the V8 in my Lexus ISF with a JoeZ exhaust system. The stock exhaust system is nice and has a decent rumble, however the JoeZ takes the V8 sound to the next level. This exhaust is a fantastic product at good price. I was also surprised at the quality of the construction and welding. In addition, the installation process was pretty simple and the fitment was nearly spot on. I also took the liberty to do a sound comparison between the stock Lexus ISF exhaust and the aftermarket JoeZ PTS exhaust system. The results of the sound test speak for themselves, this exhaust is a winner! The JoeZ system costs roughly $1600 dollars and in my opinion, is well worth the price. The smile that the ISF V8 puts on your face with this exhaust system is priceless!

Dinan exhaust BMW 335i

Dinan exhaust sounds from my 2009 BMW 335i.

Dinan is well know for their high quality performance parts for BMW’s. They produces various parts from engine upgrades to suspension upgrades. In addition, they also have engine tuning options which change the ECU variables for more power. This company is unique in the aftermarket world because their parts still support factory BMW warranty. My personal BMW 335i has a handful of Dinan upgrades including a stage 2 ECU flash and suspension. In addition, I have the Dinan axle-back exhaust as well as some cosmetic upgrades. The Dinan exhaust produces a unique sound for the turbo-charged 335i which can be heard in my startup video below!
